Joël was born on August the 29th, 1964 in Carpentras and lived in Mazan with his parents who were both vineyard owners. He was the youngest child in a family of four. When he was 18, in his last year at school, he became the breadwinner in his family because of his father's health problems. From that time onwards, Joël has been able to show proof of his passion for the vineyard, even though his parents were thinking of another future for their son. He decided to sit for the Agricultural Professional Diploma (B.P.A) to set himself up as a young farmer in 1986 on lands that nobody wanted in Crillon-le-Brave.
